In the wake of largest act of international terrorism, citizens of the United States clung to each other in agonizing grief and frustration. Facing insurmountable death and destruction, this grief formed into nationalistic pride. As American flags blazoned on every horizon this national sense of unity and togetherness permeated through every citizen. As people looked desperately for justice, this grief manifested into anger and violence. As the turning point in American nationalism, 9/11 affected the citizens of America in a multitude of ways. Nationalism, although positive and negative at times, was forever altered by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and continues to affect us today.
